Scott here. Ready for a long day? We are. We are going from Bimini to Chub Cay. A good 11 hour day! I was up around 5:30 am and took Jazzy for her walk. We started our get going process around 6:15 am and tossed the lines around 6:40 am. Not bad if I do say so myself!
Plan v ACTUAL
Start at: 7:00 am ACTUAL 6:39 AM
End at: 5:30 pm ACTUAL 5:45 PM
Total Time: 11:30 hours (10:59 travel time + no wake zones) ACTUAL 10:33
Distance: 98.9 miles ACTUAL 99.5 MILES
Avg Speed: 9.4 mph
Max Speed: 15 mph
Now remember nothing is an exact science. I write down the start and stop times and turn on the chart recorder hopefully at the same time, but not always.
When we first started out we had to head south to leave the Bimini channel, then take a couple of rights to head north on the west side of Bimini to take another right to the Mackie Shoal. We veer a little more right (more south) to get to the Northwest Channel to Chub Cay. For the first few hours our deepest water was may 25-30′. We could see bottom the entire time. It was awesome! Once we hit the Northwest channel the color of the water changed to a beautiful blue and we could no longer see bottom. At one point we saw 2,400′ of water under us. Another type of amazing!
Getting into Chub Cay was pretty easy and just in time. We probably pulled in to their marina around 5:20 and by the time we are all tied up and I have the time to turn off the chart plotter, look at the time, it was 5:45 pm. O’Neil our dock hand that helped us was also great. USA marinas should come to the Bahamas to learn about service!
On the way we did make two short stops and detours. One was to pick up a mylar ballon. It says Happy Birthday. We will hang that out on Christmas for Jesus! The other stop was to pick up what we thought was a big plastic jug of garbage. It turned out to be a good-sized fender. If you’re on a boat, you can never have enough fenders! That’s what I say at least!! This is our third fender we have found so far. I think one more and we will have picked up the number we have lost over the years!! These fenders are not the same size and one is really a good size for the dinghy. We do get some enjoyment in picking up crap out of the water; so, we will continue to do it.

So May I ask what was the cost for dockage at chub? We were there 4 yrs ago and was a little paradise!

They have a different system here. Our first night was $118 and that included water and power. Then I figured out the idol system and rented an idol for $30 and the rate was $47 plus water (.45/ gallon) and power (.55 kWh I think.)
It is not as expensive as I was lead to believe. It is a beautiful place.
