Travel day #23 stats

Scott here. November 1, 2023 we went from Kingfisher Bay Marina in Demopolis, AL to Coffeeville, AL at Bobby’s Fish Camp. Not a very nice place and I would not recommend anyone stay here. It is small. One dock where you can fit 4 or 5 boats. Before we arrived a large yacht, at least 60’ and near new was right in the middle of the dock with a smaller power cat behind them. Why they would dock like that is beyond me and why the “employee” would allow them to dock like that is beyond me as well. The employee knew there were 3 more boats coming in this evening. Frustrating! We had to wait for them to move their boats and we went to the fuel dock first.

We were just going to head back north 4 miles, then decided to to head south below the lock to an anchorage. Then I read some reviews on that anchorage and it is too shallow. Then we decided to raft to another boat. I have become pretty poor at making decisions! I’ll need to get better at that skill!!

But, we rafted to another boat and we will run the generator for a couple of hours to cook and charge electronic before going to bed early. Here was the plan.

Start at: 5:30 am ACTUAL 5:35 am
End at: 1:00 pm ACTUAL 4:18 pm
Total Time: 10:07 hours (9:37 travel time + 1 lock) ACTUAL 11:18 hours
Distance: 96.3 miles ACTUAL 96.6
Fuel Plan: 43 gallons ACTUAL 75.9

Avg speed: 8.4

Max speed: 12

I know the fuel as we fueled up where we left. I could see the fuel gauge moving as we were going over 11 mph for a while. High RPM’s for much of the day. Yes, you see my average is only 8.4 mph but that takes into account our first hour or so at 5 mph or less and the last hour even slower as we were waiting for boats to get docked so we could raft. I will try not to go so fast in the future!

It was way too cold this morning!

  1. Ok Scott I thought you were going to have warmer weather. Looks like you are cold. Love the pictures and the stories. Rick always wanted to do this but I was not sure about it. I’m thinking one of us wouldn’t have made it back.
