Travel Day April 4, 24 (Richmond Hill to Daufuskie Landing) Travel Day #68 and stats

Scott here. After the fact post here. I fell behind! This day we traveled from Rainbow Bend anchorage to Daufuskie Island and the New River anchorage. The day was simply crappy. Raining, windy, overcast and cold. We saw very few boats.

We only had one scary part, a small river called Hell Gate. The channel was about 150 wide, but I would say it was really half that as it appear shallow on the edges of the channel. Just outside the channel it was maybe a 2′ deep.

Needless to say we went slow and it was windy. But, we made it back to 10′ of water and picked up our speed back to 10 mph and was cruising right along! The red solid line is our route. The blue doted line is the Bob423 track – very helpful!

Daufuskie Island is about 1 hour or 10 miles north of the state line. GA was not my favorite part of the ICW. I hope SC is prettier.

The anchorage had two other boats, both of which seemed to be derelict. Our first spot we couldn’t get the anchor set so we moved farther in on the river. Found a great safe spot the anchor set easily. The winds were 15+ mph and 1-2′ waves. It was bumpy, but not uncomfortable.

I took a dinghy ride to the island. This island has no roads to it, the only was to get on the island is by boat. It really reminded me of the Bahamas a little.
