Scott here. Last travel day stat to get us caught up!! February 16, 2024 we traveled from Fort Lauderdale to Stuart. Those that have been with us may remember when we headed south from Stuart to Fort Lauderdale it was a three-day adventure (Stuart to Jupiter, Jupiter to West Palm Beach, and West Palm Beach to Fort Lauderdale.) Today we will do it in one long shot.
We pulled anchor at 6:40 am, just before sunrise. Later in the day we laughed since the night prior (travel day #58a) it seemed like we were going so fast. But, we didn’t go faster than 6.4 mph! When we were going 10 mph it seemed so slow. Funny, how your perception can be so different based on daylight!
We knew this was going to be a long travel day, but I actually thought it would take longer than it actually did. I am so glad I was wrong!
We made a 20-minute stop at Alsdorf Park in what I think is in Pompano Beach. They have a free municipal dock with a 30 minute limit. Jazzy needs her morning walk and our anchorage had no place to get on land to walk her! The park has nice fixed docks with a section of a floating dock. There were no boats there and it was easy docking and throwing the lines and Jazzy was happy. It is funny how easy it can be to dock, when you don’t have a lot of wind and current to deal with.
Not too toot my own horn, but backing into the slip at the marina in Stuart I impressed the deck hand who was there to help with my excellent boat handling skills. But (there is always a but!), this marina has short fingers (this is the dock that comes off the main dock we are backing up to, the finger is used get off the side of the boat) and a tall pylon on each side near the bow (think telephone pole). I could not lasso that pylon for the life of me and that took away all the good karma for my excellent docking skills! I had to get the boat pole to get the bow lines around it. 😂😂
Plan v ACTUAL
Date: February 16, 2024
Start at: 7:00 am ACTUAL 6:40 am
End at: 5:00 pm ACTUAL 5:35 PM
Total Time: 12 hours (9:13 travel time plus time to dock and no wake zones) 11:03 hours
Distance: 83.1miles ACTUAL 83.2 miles
We are actually staying in the same marina we stayed at on the way down. Nice place, the docking fees are OK, but the $35 a day for power is a little pricy. But, we have a long list of work that needs to get done.
I will do my best to share some of that work in the next month, as well as putting out a couple of videos from the Bahamas. I almost have my haircut video done (yep, Rita cut my hair!)
Hopefully, Rita will get a couple of posts out to share some of our excitement in the last few weeks.
