Travel Day Feb 13, 24 (Nassau to Bimini) Travel day #57


Scott here. Both of us want to get out of Nassau, but we want to make a smart decision on when to leave. I would like to leave Monday, but it is looking like Tuesday will be better for us to leave.

This is sort-of our planned timeline.
10:00 am: Leave the marina
10:30 am: Fuel up at Bay Street Marina
11:00 am: Leave Bay Street Marina and exit Nassau

Weather forecast on Monday, Feb. 12
Wind: 17 mph out of the SSE
Waves: 3′ out of the E
Swell: 2′ out of the NE with 13 sec period

Weather Forecast for Tues, Feb. 13
Wind: 14 mph out of the South
Waves: 2′ out of the S
Swell: 1′ out of the NNE with a 13 sec period

4:00 pm: Get to Chub Cay area
     This will be the bumpiest part of the travel day. It is about 4 1/2 hours and I am using 5 hours for slow speed getting out of Nassau Harbor. Halfway to Chub Cay the weather will look like this (I am using weather forecast at 2 pm.) Weather forecast in [ ] is from Marv’s Weather at 3 pm. We could decide to anchor at Chub Cay for the night as well. We will pick out an emergency anchorage.

Wind: 20 mph SE [16 mph out of the SE]
Waves: 4′ out of the East [5′ out of the NE]
Swell: 3′ out of the NE with a 13 sec period [Peak 6′ out of the NE with 13 sec period]

Weather forecast for leaving Tuesday Feb. 13
Wind: 16 mph of the NW [15 mph out of the W]
Waves: 3′ out of the NW [3′ out of the NE]
Swell 2′ out of the NE with a 13 sec period [Peak 4′ out of the NE with a 13 sec period]

10:00 pm: Arrive at the Mackie Shoal area. This weather forecast is for 10 pm halfway between Chub and Bimini. Weather forecast in [ ] is for 9 pm from Marv’s Weather. If weather permits, and it may, we could anchor a mile or two off the channel at the Mackie Shoal and sleep, but I probably wouldn’t want to do that to Jazzy.

3:30 am: Get to the north tip of Bimini. We may drop anchor to rest for a couple of hours or keep going. Weather forecast for Bimini at 4 am
