Scott here. An unexpected travel day. To start, last night was an awesome night. We hardly moved and I almost forgot we were on a boat. But, after taking Jazzy for her morning walk the wind picked up as well as the waves and it became rolly.
But, we have chores to get done. We are down to just one towel left and Jazzy puked up a hairball on a blanket that needs to get washed. So we loaded up some laundry to take into town at the 1 laundromat. We both felt bad for Jazzy leaving her on the boat alone but there isn’t room for her in the dinghy. As we are heading down the “Between the Majors anchorage” we notice how much calmer it is. There are a lot of boats here but we see one maybe two good spots still open. Easy decision to turn around and move.
About 10 minutes after getting back to the boat we are on the way. I really didn’t have time to put a route together right away, but we can literally see the masts from where we are. We have two options. The shortest and quickest route is to head east and go thru a cut that is plenty deep, but only 60 wide with rocks on both sides. Or, go around Big Majors island and add 3 miles to the trip. Of course, we take the long way. Better safe than sorry!
We can follow an old track for a part of the way and visually pilot the rest. We made it with no issues. Dropped the hook then we were back in the dinghy to do our laundry.🧺
If we made a plan it would look something like below with our actual numbers.
We have two more nights here. Tonight will be windy with some 20-28 mph winds out of the north then our final night shouldn’t have more than 15 mph winds.
Friday we plan to leave super early and go to Shroud Cay, which is supposed to be to be even more beautiful, but only stay for one night. We will leave there a little later and have some actives before we leave and head to Highborne Cay or Allen’s Cay to hopefully find a safe place for the next cold front coming through. That front should only last 3 nights.
