Travel Day Jan. 30, 24 (Black Point to Staniel Cay) Travels day #54 plus stats

Scott here. We finally did it. We left Black Point! We were there for 10 days. We would have gone crazy without good cell or internet reception for 10 days. As it is during peak evening hours the load is pretty heavy that our Bahamas Aliv internet is pretty slow.

As you may know our last couple days there were rough! How rough was it! We didn’t sleep for nearly 24 hours because it was too uncomfortable and we kept an anchor watch in the helm from 1 am until til 5 pm. Even though we had the anchor alarm running. Just in case. Thankfully we had no major issues!

One issue we did have was that it calmed down enough, so we thought, around 4 pm to take Jazzy for a walk. Once we dropped the dinghy in the water and we all got in a rogue wave it and pushed the dinghy motor into the davit system breaking the emergency kill switch and the button to turn off the motor. Darn it!! 🤬

Everyone out of the dinghy as it won’t start. Thankfully I was able to find a service manual on-line (we really did NEED the internet) and found the wire that needs to be unplugged to start and turn off the dinghy. If you’re curious it is the black and pink wire. So, to turn off the dinghy I need to plug the wire in. To turn it on it just needs to be unplugged.

It appears to be a $70 part that should be easily replaceable, but it will be a pain in the butt until then, but at least we have a work around.

Jan. 30 we decided it was time to go. There is free water in Black Point, I just have to beach the dinghy, walk up some steps, cross the road and the water is there. I hauled 30 gallons to fill up the water tank and have 20 extra gallons onboard. Rita took a nice long “Rita walk” while I was getting water and took a shower. We picked up some fresh bread from grannie and bought a few groceries before we headed out.
