Travel day Jan. 18, 24 (Black Cay to Prime Cay) travel day # 52

Scott here. Today is a travel day as we officially leave Great Exuma Island. It isn’t “Goodbye” but “See ya later!” Prime Cay is a new addition as we took out Lee Stocking Island. There were some “ruins”, an old research facility we wanted to explore, but it has been purchased and is being revamped , so the explorers is over. The only other thing we wanted to see there was Perry’s Peak, the highest point in the Exumas, so we decided to leave that for the next trip down.

Prime Cay has an anchorage that seems to have good protection from easterly winds which is where the big blow is coming in from over the weekend and early next week. We may sit in this anchorage for a week waiting on weather. There is a lot to explore either on the island or close by, so we will 🙏 that we beat the crowd there.

I am hoping we can pick up some water at our next stop, Little Farmers Cay. By and by, “Cay” is pronounced “Key” if I have not told you that previously.

Now, this anchorage has a depth of 1 meter at low tide. We need 1.22 meters or 4 feet to be safe. Once in the hole we will have 1.5 meters of water, it is tight but should be good. High tide is at 1:32 pm and is 2.92 feet. Plenty of room for us. Low tide that night is .26 feet so we will above that 4 feet we need.

That just means we will leave between 11 and 11:30 am for the 2 hour trek there.
