Scott here. We left Nassau and traveled to Hawksbill Island. Here we stayed on a mooring ball. Our first ever!!
The travel day was a b!tch. We should have stayed in Nassau. We were expecting 17 mph winds with 3′ waves. We had 17 mph wind with 4-5′ waves with the occasional 6′ thrown in for good measure!! We ended up getting a tear in one of our tubes on the dinghy, so that really depressed us. But, I am just seeing it as a challenge, and we will figure out how to get it repaired or buy a different dinghy.
This mooring field was absolutely beautiful. The stars we saw were just amazing. On our last night Rita and I were going to the bow of the boat around 10:30 pm and a shadow caught my eye in the water. After getting a flashlight it was a turtle with at least a 3′ shell. It was HUGE! So cool!
Getting ahead of myself, because well, this is after the fact, we ended up staying there for 3 nights. The wind was just crazy blowing over 20 mph at times. We had protection from NE & E wind, and some protection from S wind, but when it turned south we sure could feel the rollers coming in.
