Travel day Nov. 8, 23 (Santa Rosa Beach to Panama City) Travel day #29

Scott here. Today we will leave this wonderful anchorage and head to just past Panama City, but still a Panama City address, to Farmdale anchorage. On the way we will stop at St. Andrew’s Marina for fuel, Pump-out, and fresh water. The marina was taken out by a hurricane and is only a fuel stop right now. It will be nice to get Jazzy off the boat for a few minutes in the middle of the day.

I did end up taking the dinghy to shore yesterday and stopped at a bait shop and picked up some lures. Then I purchased my resident FL saltwater license so I can fish now while we anchor out. But, do NOT count on hearing my fish stories. I have no clue what I am doing and just enjoy tossing the line in the water. Although, I would love to catch dinner some night. Oh, and I bought a book to help ID what the heck I catch if I do catch something. 😂. The plan today looks like this.

I guess we will be making up for the exorbitant costs at The Wharf Marina by doing three nights in a row on a free dock or anchoring. We plan on anchoring in Apalachicola as well since all the marinas are $3.00 a foot there. We will get a marina in Carabelle as we wait for our weather window to cross the Gulf.

Hazards for the day

This is what I read in the electronic charts (except for the TM, which stands for my “Route Travel Mile Marker.” The first one is an official notice from the Coast Guard regarding the severe shoaling at mm 255.0. The second one is from a community source Active Captain and is from 2018. Could be gone, but I’ll still take extra precautions in that area, because, why not?

TM 5.0 (mm 255.0): Severe shoaling has been reported in the GIWW, near Mile 255.0, EHL, on the northern side of the channel at Point Washington, FL. Mariners should transit the area with extreme caution.

TM 17.1 (mm 267.1): Significant shoaling on south side of channel at the creek entrance.

Have a great day and I’ll let you know how the day goes!
