Travel Day #27 stats

Scott here. November 6, 2023, we traveled from Orange Beach, AL (The Wharf) to Navarre Beach, FL (Juana’s Pagodas restaurant.) The Wharf was a floor up (not just a step up) from Grand Mariner Marina. But, it was not worth the price in my opinion. We will need to anchor out 3 times to make up for what we spent to just dock one night at The Wharf. Oh well, lesson learned.

Today’s travel was much better than our last travel day. I almost soft grounded once! I moved over too early to pass a barge and on saw 1′ of water under the boat. I thought I was done with barges, but I think we will always see them. Everyone we talked to on the radio has been super nice and helpful. Our planning went pretty good today I think.

I almost forgot. Part of our plan today was to provision at Winn-Dixie. BUT, as we came in we were a little stressed due to the wind, water level, not really knowing where to dock that we totally forgot we were going to use the dinghy to cross the waterway. We backed in and were unable to drop the dinghy to use it! Then it took us a couple of hours to remember! We ended up walking there, about 1.5 miles give or take then took an Uber back home. All in all it worked well!

Plan v ACTUAL
Start at: 9:00 am ACTUAL 8:40 AM
End at: 2:30 pm ACTUAL 2:15 PM
Total Time: 5:26 hours ACTUAL 5:35 hours
Distance: 48.9 miles ACTUAL 49.3 miles

We had a number of No Wake Zones today. That means we have to run at idle speed through those zones. Most of them are short for marinas, boat ramps, and the like. One zone was a mile or two for mostly very expensive homes it looked like. Our idle speed is just over 5 mph so it takes some time.

I hope you saw Rita’s post on our Facebook page on her video of dolphins playing in our wake. Click here to see her video.
