Travel day #24 stats

Scott here. November 2, 2023 we traveled from Bobby’s Fish Camp to Tensaw anchorage which is technically in Mt. Vernon, AL. We are on the Tensas River about 1 mile off the Ten-Tom River and about 39 miles to Mobile Bay.

It was another long day, not as long as yesterday, but it felt like it for some reason. We started out with me needing a credit card to scrape the helm windows so I could see out of them! Then we had to travel in some low hanging fog. I would have stayed back, but we were rafted on the outside of another boat and the lock master wanted all the pleasure craft to come through at the same time to lock us all through together. So, off we went!

Plan v ACTUAL

Start at: 7:00 am ACTUAL 6:53 AM
End at: 1:00 pm ACTUAL 4:15 pm
Total Time: 9:33 hours (9:13 travel time + 1 lock) ACTUAL 9:21 HOURS
Distance: 83.0 miles ACTUAL 83.7

So, I must have missed some fingers when I came up with getting here at 1 pm! I say that because my planned time and actual time were pretty close. Even though, I planned 30 minutes for the lock and it took an hour. But, we must have saved some time in speed.

I make the plans at 9 mph, but we tend to go closer to 10 mph, but we have to slow down A LOT. Heck, at one point we stopped waiting for a barge to round a corner because the previous one we met at a corner and the river was really skinny and shallow and I did’t like that.

Then I wasn’t paying very close attention and went on the wrong side of an invisible green buoy and had less than 2’ of water under the keel and I though I heard some scrapping of sand under the hull. I liked that even less! No damage was done!
