October 16, 2023 Boston Bar anchorage on the Mississippi River to Paducah, KY
Today was strange. Our initial plan with our buddy boats was to leave around 8:00 am and Dove was going to leave earlier as they tend to go slower than the rest of us. We heard from Dove around 7 am that they talked with the lock master and he said no promises but be there by 10:30 am. So we were all there around 10 am. The lock master now said it would be about 2 hours. And it was. 1 3/4 hour later we were heading into the lock. Frustrating!
Anyhow, the current on the Mississippi River is crazy. I was running about 1500 RPM’s and going 13.5 mph. Then I took a left turn to head up the Ohio River. Now I am going against the current and my speed dropped to 8.2 mph. I gained a little back after we made it through the lock, but just WOW!
Tonight, we are tied up to the Paducah Transient Dock. We had enough time to walk around Paducah, which is a cute little town. And, no, we didn’t go the Quilt Museaum, it was closed today and we won’t have time in the morning.
Start at: 8:00 am ACTUAL 7:23 AM
End at: 3:30 pm ACTUAL 3:36 PM
Total Time: 7:32 (6:02 travel hours, 1 1/2 hours for 1 lock) ACTUAL 7:55 hours
Distance: 54.2 miles ACTUAL 54.2
I think the plan was pretty good, we just had to be like Gumby and move it around a little. That is OK!
