I try to keep OK statistics to know what we are doing. Below are some of the most commonly questions I have heard. Thought some of you might be interested.

(Scott here)

Where did we stay for the last 6 months?

This can be complicated, but I can hopefully make this make sense to you! The image below shows the different types of places we stayed. Six different categories and three sub categories under “Boondocking”. The number of days stayed in each category and the total cost for each category.

The second image below is the listing of each city we stayed in for each category and the cost for each cities stay as well as the average cost per night for each category. As you can tell the private campgrounds are a lot more than state/county/city parks.

How much did we spend in gas for the RV and how far did you go?

Gas was a pretty big expense compared to what we normally spend on gas! We burned 950.195 gallons of gas (RV only, we didn’t keep track of gas in the car) for a total of $3,070.16. Other than Buc-ee’s, I think my favorite gas station is the Flying J, especially the ones that have dedicated RV lanes.

We drove a total of 6,048.7 miles. We used our generator for 66.4 hours. I assume we used 49.8 gallons of gas (.75 per hour).

Overall I estimated we obtained an average of 6.7 mpg. Our average cost per gallon of gas was $3.38.

How much did we spend in RV repairs?

An RV is like a boat, something is always broken! We had two major issues. First we had an electrical issue in November. We spend $405.00 on a mobile RV guy and another $336.78 on parts are Camping World and we had to travel somewhere else to finally get the entire issue fixed. We had to replace a power converter and refrigerator heating element. We also had an oil change done. That was $791.11.

The biggest expense was brakes. This is really a maintenance issue, but it was expensive so I am putting it here. The brakes were $3,089.62.

Our heater/AC went out and that cost us $430.67 to repair. Overall, we spent $5,053.18 on these issues.

how much propane did you use?

I saved the least expensive item for last. We purchased 53.0 gallons of propane for a total of of $218.58. We use propane to heat the coach when it is super cold and the electric simply can’t keep up. Plus, the oven and stove-top both use propane and when we are not hooked up to electric and moving the fridge/freezer uses propane to cool.

would you do it again and/or live full time in the rv?

We would do things differently next time. But, I think we will touch on this in a video and have a conversation about it.

I am having issues embedding a map here. I think you can click on this link and see a map of our nightly stops along with a couple photos at each stop.
